One of our current honours students, Chris (Tinashe) Matibiri, was a finalist in the 2009 Nedbank Old Mutual Budget Speech Competition.

As a result last week Chris was flown to Cape Town to attend the budget speech, he reports "We get flown to Cape Town to attend Parliament and we meet with the Minister of Finance and various CEOs. For the second year running I was the only finalist from the whole of KZN. I didn't win the top prize but I was happy to be there. Its just sad that KZN has very little participation and the last time it had a winner was 1986. I have been the only finalist in about 8 years or so. That is an honour and its also quiet sad as I am not even an Economist."

Well done Chris for representing UKZN and in fact KZN!
