The Discipline houses a variety of facilities, including a number of seminar rooms for workshops and postgraduate training, a Centre for Applied Psychology which provides counseling services to the community, and a test library which contains a wide range of psychometric measures
The Discipline of Psychology is housed in the Psychology building situated on Golf Road, between the New Arts Block and the Education Building. Next to the Discipline is the Ronald MacMillan Lecture Theatre, where all first year Psychology lectures will be held.

The Discipline of Psychology has three distinct histories; Westville, Pietermaritzburg, and Durban. Today the Discipline is an amalgamation of these three departments, existing on two campuses (Howard College and Pietermaritzburg) and servicing courses on the Westville campus.
The vision of the Discipline of Psychology is to be a standard setting institution of excellence in emerging niche areas within socio-psychological scholarship, with a focus on African Psychology. The goal is to nurture and deliver excellence and innovation in knowledge production that addresses challenges in the national, regional, and international development agenda in relevant ways. This will be achieved through critically informed and reflective teaching, research and community responsiveness.
